Andy Murray has failed to reach the Wimbledon final after losing to number two seed Roger Federer in straight sets.
The Swiss champion beat Murray 7-5, 7-5, 6-4 on the centre
court and he will now face Serbian champion and two-times Wimbledon
champion Novak Djokovic for a shot at a record eighth All England Club
title.Federer confidently outplayed the 28-year-old Scot with powerful serves and fast returns that prevented Murray from winning a single set.
If he manages to beat Djokovic, Federer will become first man to win eight Wimbledon titles. In 2012, he tied Pete Sampras and 1880s player William Renshaw with seven.
"I've been serving very well for the entire tournament. My serve was good again, against one of the best returners. I kept the pressure up, I went for my shots and was able to mix it up the way I usually do it. It all worked out very well."
Murray said: "He served fantastic, apart from the first game where I had the chance there.
"I didn't really have any opportunities. Then that puts pressure on you.
"The pressure builds throughout the set that way... That's definitely the best he served against me."
Murray's performance was watched by wife Kim Sears and his mother Judy from the players' box, while celebrities looked on from the Royal Box.
The win sent Federer into his 26th Grand Slam final and at the age of 33 he becomes the oldest player to reach the Wimbledon men’s final since 37-year-old Australian Ken Rosewall lost to Jimmy Connors in 1974.
Federer's win extended his career record against Murray to 13-11, including 5-1 in Grand Slams, but this semi-final was the first time the pair faced each other since 2012, when Federer beat Murray in the Wimbledon final.
Federer and Djokovic will meet for the 40th time on Sunday. It will be their second final together after the Serbian beat the Swiss in 2014.
